Overview
In 1918, the Swedish army landed on the Åland Islands by three warships. The Finnish Civil War had spilled over to Åland from the Finnish mainland. The Swedes came as a so called peacekeepers, but in fact Sweden wanted to retake the islands and yet again make then part of Sweden. But why did the islands become part of Finland?
