Overview

President Reagan sees in Nicaragua a Communist tyranny which threatens the stability of Central America. The US Government back the guerrillas who are fighting to bring down the Sandinista regime and has imposed an economic embargo. Others in the West are more doubtful about the reality of the threat from Nicaragua.
