Volcanic eruptions are devastating, often killing thousands and displacing many more, yet people continue to reside near active volcanoes as the ash and lava enrich the soil. Some volcanoes lay dormant for centuries, even millennia at a stretch, creating catastrophic consequences when they finally erupt. Mt.
