The Jesuit Ruđer Bošković was a mathematician, astronomer, geodesist, physicist, philosopher, diplomat, and writer. He worked in statics, and thanks to him alone, the domes of St. Peter’s in the Vatican and the Imperial Library in Vienna never collapsed on popes and emperors.
