Garbage was the brainchild of Madison, Wisconsin producers Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, and Steve Marker. But it wasn't until they hooked up with Angelfish singer Shirley Manson that their alternative/techno venture turned golden. Shirley is the band's central charm - angry but needy, wounded but enduring, a little jaded but somehow guileless.
