Overview

Since 2020, higher education has been plagued by students passing off AI-written essays and reports as their own work. In 2024 alone, over 47,000 undergraduates at the University of Maryland admitted to using ChatGPT or similar programs to cheat. To combat this, the University of Maryland has assembled a crack team of elite student agents with special authority to apprehend any students suspected of using AI: the University of Maryland GPT Police Department.
