Overview

The appearance of a Kleenex-box in Heise’s work signals that the scene is about to become emotional. When the character gives in and reaches for a tissue, we know we are witnessing an emotional breakdown or breakthrough. The tissues offer assistance in wiping away tears, snot and other bodily fluids – and are, paradoxically, entirely devoid of use or purpose without the very emotions they seek to remedy.
