The Dajia Matsu pilgrimage activity is one of Taiwan’s biggest religious events when people carry flags symbolizing the sons and daughters of the goddess, following her on the journey for over 300 kilometers. Hua Paung is gay as well as a HIV carrier, initiating a mission of eliminating discrimination with “HIV+ hugs”. Hua Paung also happens to be a follower of the deity Matsu.
