The Rope From Sense To Sense

Overview

The video work was woven from the material of several meetings, interviews and recording sessions with a group of blind musicians that work in the center of Mexico City. While diving into the notion of an acoustic gaze, the work plays with the interchangeable materiality of words. The interviews revolved around their relationship with the senses, thus vocalizing some of the often hidden, unperceived experiences of these musicians. From the transcripts, I selected sentences that I shared with the musicians as lyric material for a song. After receiving their own words back, the musicians composed a salsa song that invites the listener into their world of experience.
