Overview
In an Egyptian village during the year 1933, the mayor informs the farmers that the share of irrigation of their lands has become divided equally between them and Mahmoud Bey, the feudal lord. However, the peasants revolt against these instructions, led by Muhammad Abu Sweilem, and Muhammad Effendi proposes to submit a petition to the government, and he travels to Cairo to meet Mahmoud Bey for submission. Things get worse when Mahmud Bey proposes the construction of a road linking his palace to the main street, which entails the expropriation of part of the peasants' lands.
