Overview
Femke Herregraven’s The Evacuated is a simulation of a forest that rewrites itself in real time. In this synthetic ecosystem, memory becomes volatile, time loops and mutates, and the landscape remains in continuous flux. Rendered in a game engine and driven by a computational model whose rules and protocols are continuously iterated, it produces unpredictable cycles of transformation and emergence. Continuity does not exist here; the forest gradually reveals itself as a place of continuous becoming – where science, mythology, catastrophe, and ecological speculation converge.
