Overview

The foreign fighters who participated in the Syrian Civil War come from diverse backgrounds and nations: the USA, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and more; ranging from simple farmers to university scholars. All gathered in one place, either fighting for ISIS or against it. This documentary focuses on the latter group-not the 25,000 combatants fighting alongside ISIS, but the 800 foreign fighters who joined forces with the Kurdish YPG (People’s Protection Units) to combat ISIS. These individuals arrived in Syrian Kurdistan, known to Kurds as Rojava, from across the globe and are fighting on the front lines under YPG command.
