Overview
Seoul Angel's Poem is a single-channel video work that reexamines the city of Seoul through the lens of digital simulation and memory. In Wim Wenders's film Wings of Desire (1987), angels observed human lives from their midst; here, the angel is no longer a transcendent being but a figure situated within a system that calculates and records life and death. Through this device, the word raises questions about who is documented and who is forgotten, and about the extent of responsibility borne by the recorder. In an era when digital technology manages life and death, Seoul Angel's Poem expresses the fainy but unabandoned wish that we might still recognize the wings of others.
