Overview

Vintage clips and stills, and interviews with such golf greats as Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer trace the history of the North Carolina resort, the site of the 1999 U.S. Open. Founded by New England soda-fountain merchant James Walker Tufts in 1895, the first course at Pinehurst opened in 1898, and Donald Ross began construction on the famous No. 2 course in 1902. Also interviewed: golf-course designer Pete Dye, former amateur champions Bill Campbell and Maureen Orcutt. Will Lyman narrates.
