Overview
Octopus is considered a delicacy, whether grilled, boiled, or fried. But increased demand has consequences: in several regions of Europe, this intelligent cephalopod is being overexploited. Its populations are declining dramatically, especially in the Mediterranean region. In Greece, it is often caught using prohibited traps. Together with the coast guard, the environmental organization Sea Shepherd has removed thousands of these traps from the seabed: an operation against environmental crime.
