Overview

Ngali, Nut of Life" tells the story of how a special tree, the ngali nut tree, is the most highly prized and exploited resource of villagers in Fo’ondo, Toa’baita, Malaita Island. Ngali trees mark land ownership, provide the nut with a buttery texture that makes a local delicacy, and brings different tribes together for peace. At the same time, traditional use of the tree is changing, raising important questions for the future relationship between humans and nature and between the tribes themselves.
