Overview
When people disappear from one day to the next due to social pressure, financial, domestic or mental problems, they call it jōhatsu in Japan. It literally means evaporation. Some jōhatsu see no way out and struggle with dark thoughts. The phenomenon is not recognized in Japan and so it stays under the radar.
