Into the Rift

Overview

Beginning with the escape route taken by the fugitive Xu Hongci, this video essay explores how memory is preserved, displaced or rendered through images, text and digital materials across time and media. Instead of attempting to reconstruct history, the artist extends his focus to the traces left by an individual and the possibility of rewriting fragmented memories. Even with physical evidence like photography and text, or advanced technological reconstructions, the fragility of memory is inherent, particularly in the vast ocean of history.
