Overview

On October 28, 1946, the monument to Miguel Grau, created by Spanish sculptor Victorio Macho, was inaugurated in Lima in a grand ceremony. The President of the Republic, José Luis Bustamante y Rivero, arrived accompanied by the Minister of the Navy and the head of his military household. The President of the Senate and poet, José Gálvez, recited his Pindaric Ode to Grau. Remarks were also delivered by Marshal Eloy G. Ureta and the Mayor of Lima, Augusto Benavides Canseco. Manuel Prado also appears in the scene, along with Manuel Elías Bonnemaison, a surviving sailor of the Huáscar. Peruvian newsreels from the 1940s.
