Overview

To explore how Kurdish films could spark discussions on patriarchy with Kurdish women, the documentary team organized traveling cinema workshops in Dersim, Amed, and Van, Turkey. Screenings were held in villages and city centers, featuring films about women like Basê, Berfê, and others. These women-only sessions, named GotûbêJin (a blend of "to say" and "woman"), became spaces for dialogue. Viewers -many new to Kurdish cinema- discussed gender representation, masculinity, and patriarchy, linking film themes to their lives. The documentary captures their critiques, personal stories, and reflections on systemic oppression, alongside stran (songs) by dengbêj women (storytelling singers) sharing their experiences.
