Overview

As she prepares for another edition of the annual festivities in her honor, Maria Grande recalls the history of the event and talks about the perspectives surrounding Lavagem da B. de Maria. This documentary follows Maria and her community as they organize and tell the story of this celebration, the disputes surrounding it and their efforts to secure their right to parade in the streets of the neighborhood with their cultural expression. Led by women, this celebration has faced threats throughout its history due to its expression of female sexuality and the controversy surrounding its name. In Portuguese with English subtitles.
