Overview
This film tells the story of the French presence in Indochina between 1930 and 1950. Against a backdrop of opium dens, congaïs, neglected white wives, large expatriate families, and piastre trafficking... The characters are white people who have left home in search of adventure. They work in a bank, on a plantation, and in government, forming the fabric of expatriate European society. Through the story of their intertwined destinies, we travel through an entire era and a continent: Southeast Asia.
