Overview
In the center of the story is Almandar, a wise, cheerful and resourceful long–lived resident of the village of Aldermysh. His recipe for longevity is tireless work, caring for loved ones, and sly jokes. He is sure that life is the most beautiful thing that is given to a person, and all life's difficulties must be met boldly, holding your head high. In his youth, he escaped death by deceiving an agent of the heavenly chancery, and is not averse to doing it again.
